NUNSA WEEK 2015




AWARENESS
On Monday, 16th November, 2015, students of the prestigious department turned out massively to let the whole campus know about NUNSA week. Decked in their colourful jerseys, nursing students from every level in the hostel trouped from hostel to hostel amidst much dancing, singing spreading the message of the arrival of the much anticipated NUNSA week.



PART TIME CLASS FACELIFT
As part of the NUNSA week, the executives of NUNSA OAU and students of the department painted the part time room as a contribution to the department. The part time nursing classroom is the most used lecture theatre in the department.
 





 SCIENTIFIC LECTURE/SEMINAR
Dr Omolola Irinoye, Matron Babalola from OAU Teaching Hospital Complex, Ex-President Omo-Imafidon spoke in the scientific conference. Dr irinoye spoke on Nurses and the Community; Re-evaluating our Fundamental Ideals, Matron Babalola spoke on Advancement in wound care and ex- president Omo-Imafidon spoke on emergencies in the community as well. Each expressed their appreciation for the association’s zeal and interest not just frivolities but in betterment of the future of Nursing as a whole and recommend that future executives strive to do better.



 NUNSA OAU also hosted the first inaugural INDAQS debate and quiz. Participants from OAU and Lautech competed on the topic ‘Nursing in Nigeria, Understanding our independence’. After a very stiff competition, OAU emerged champion and was awarded. 























The other schools got participatory awards as well. It was painful Nursing students from Igbenedion university, Okada, Edo state could not participate as their bus broke down half way. All in all it was educative and the first 100 students received souvenirs from one of the sponsors, UBA.


COMMUNITY SERVICE AND CAMPUS HEALTH OUTREACH
NUNSA OAU extended her arms of service to the covenant orphanage, Moro and gave toiletries, clothes, foodstuffs, etc. The orphanage is home to about 60 children.









  Also NUNSA OAU held a campus health outreach at SUB car park. Over 250 students had their blood pressure, HIV status, glucose level and body mass index checked. Free health counselling was as well offered.

 

















DEPARTMENT OF NURSING, OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY HOSTS PROFESSOR COLLEGUES AND LECTURERS FROM FINLAND.
It was a great day marking 2015 NUNSA week as colleagues and lecturers from our affiliated University school of Nursing in Finland graced the department. It was with great excitement for them coming to Nigeria for the first time. They also expressed their amazement at the level of the organization of the department and the students despite challenges the department is faced with. It was a great time of fun as interesting areas in the city were visited.


























WAZOBIA DINNER
OAU was shocked once again on Friday, 20th November, 2015 with the NUNSA Wazobia Dinner which was held at pit theatre. Exotic dresses from all over Nigeria were in full displays students wasted no time in showing off their cultural heritage. DJ simple kept it simple all through with songs and reminiscences. The NUNSA meritorious service Award 2015 (NMSA) which was the maiden edition was also given to worthy members of the association and to sponsors and contributors to NUNSA. Among the awardees were ex-presidents, Omo-Imafidon and Olugbade Cyril, Former Speaker NSSRB, Adedeji Peter.
