SCRUBS: NURSING UNIFORM

               As a Nurse, does putting on a scrub portray me as a medical doctor? Wondering why people insinuate or think scrubs are meant for doctors alone, just like using a stethoscope where in actual sense is a professional appearance and a dress code policy in the Health sector which protects wearer from transmission of diseases. 

                It keeps pondering in my mind, does putting on white uniform only portray me as a Nurse? Nursing uniform has gone far beyond white but perspectives didn't change. Is scrub an evolution in Nurses' uniform? It started from the time of Florence Nightingale, eventhough some scholars said the origin of Nursing uniform is uncertain. It started as an apron and dress during the Crimean war which was dictated by Florence Nightingale. The uniform serves as protection against illness and majorly against fever. 

                Beyond that Nursing cap was introduced, the cap was majorly used to cover hair, to celebrate achievement and induction. As evolution took place scrub was introduced bit people still find it difficult to change their perspectives. Why do they only think of white as a Nurse uniform? Why do they think of me as doctor when I'm in scrub? Why do they think am inferior? We chose different path, I am a Nurse and I wear a scrub.

AWARENESS On Monday, 16 th November, 2015, students of the prestigious department turned out massively to let the whole campus know about NUNSA week. Decked in their colourful jerseys, nursing students from every level in the hostel trouped from hostel to hostel amidst much dancing, singing spreading the message of the arrival of the much anticipated NUNSA week.
