THE CLASS VALEDICTORIAN’S ADDRESS
I’m really delighted to witness this beautiful long awaited day and we thank the good Lord for bringing the class voyage to a glorious landing today. Well, most times and unconsciously, one important we are quick to ignore about the journey of a thousand miles is that apart from the fact that it begins with a step it also ends with a step. For the inducting class, officially, today marks the last step we’re taking in the wilderness of a thousand miles in five years and our quests to bag a baccalaureate degree in nursing science.
Wow ! 5 years, 4 months and 28 days, today, a history is recorded.
Please permit me to align myself with the existing protocols.
When I reminiscence the antecedent of the class, the struggles, lovely ambience and the amiable relationship with one another, I can’t imagine parting with this lovely family, but of course the joy of meeting again at the pinnacle of success is really preferable to the pain of parting. I will miss the class , how we run to prof’s classes as early as possible only to meet him in class and we get disappointed by staying outside the class till the end of lecture or perhaps so unluckily, a test was already going on. I will miss the petrifying moments when the results are released and the whole department vibrates. Well I say that, through it all, we bore the pain, the stress, the demanding moments and the sleepless nights. Now, the world is ready to receive this set of clued up Nurses who have been feathered to cause a redefinition in the nursing profession and the global healthcare system at large.
This class, fondly called the Titanium class is indeed a unique class:
Our academic accomplishments are clear and audible, throughout the years of rigorous tutelage and learning, the Titanium class has combined diligence and commitment to maintain excellence. Although part 2 was peculiar and unforgettable, when we went through the nervousness of being exposed to new and strange medical jargons, we are comforted with the joy of bagging a 100% in the professional nursing council examinations.
Not just that, our political sagacity is remarkable, we produced several leaders in the departmental students association locally and internationally.
Also, it is amazing to note that the mirage of nursing internship became a reality with this set as we pioneer the programme implementation.
6 of us came in part 1, it’s wonderful that 69 of us alongside our wonderful part time counterparts are inducting today, though some joined in part 2, some left too, but we are grateful that none left as dead.
While I thought about everyone who has imparted and contributed to this success story in order of priority, well I discovered everybody is really invaluable. To the co-celebrant of todaywho never got discouraged when we were discouraged, our parents, spouses or guardians as the case maybe, we can’t really thank you enough. Like my lovely mom will say: a parent’s has no idea of how wealthy he would be when investing in a child’s education sumptuously. I really pray that our parents will livelong to enjoy the dividends of your investments in us.
We want to specially appreciate the provost, college of health sciences, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, you’ve immensely showed leadership par excellence, I must confess sir, I’ve been your fan from afar, and you have constantly helped the college of health sciences sustain its vision and mission.
It’s really impressive to see the Dean of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof Fajemilehin combine Deanship with lecturing, Sir, you have taught us that punctuality is not just attest of time but a test of commitment. We can’t forget your simplifying method of imparting knowledge in your Professorial classes, especially how you call us according to our heights- Adductor Longus, skin color, Yellow Rosco or facial appearance_Social prefect, really an Ife Nursing with a taste of Prof Faje, is worthwhile.

We are indebted to all our lecturers in the college of health sciences, especially in the department of Nursing  Science for their life-changing contributions, you’ve really made us better by far, you’ve refined us, only God can reward your efforts. To a combo of charisma and character, a dogma of diligence and discipline, Dr (Mrs.) Adesola Ogunfowokan, your mentorship and leadership style is rare, you’ve taught us to be a change agent wherever we find ourselves, we want to assure you that you will not be disappointed in us. We want to specially appreciate the BNSc coordinators (full time and part time) for their schematic and colorful addition to us. Our class coordinators have been wholesomely amiable and approachable, thank you for being a guide to us throughout our stay. To the indispensable triad in Ife Nursing, our clinical instructors, flexible but unbendable, I must say, you’ve made us sound and holistic. To all our clinical preceptors in OAUTHC, thank you for the distinctive professional guidance. To all the non-academic staffs in the department, we are grateful for your selfless services.
I want to specially thank representatives from our professional bodies, NMCN, UGONSA for making time out to grace this august occasion. I want to humbly appeal that you help facilitate our internship placement by consolidating awareness and adverts in the federal and state hospitals.
This success story is a resultant of the reliable efforts and substantive efforts of every member of class and more importantly, I appreciate our past reps, full-time and part-time and specially the intelligent assistance of Titilayo Motunrayo and Fasanya Adeola. The ex-presidents in the class, Nnabuife Greg and Akeju Tony, honestly, you’ve made this story more interesting.

Finally, as we rejoice on the successful completion of the programme, to my colleagues, please bear in mind that you are not paid for having a brain, you are only rewarded for using it intelligently. Build your dreams and career, else someone else will hire you to build theirs. Keep moving, keep learning and keep imparting lives.
Once again, I want to say congratulations to you all, you made it, to our parents, spouses, relatives and well-wishers, I want to wish you safe trips to respective destinations. To the college of health sciences and department, it is time to say bye for now.
I am Olufemi Akinsunmade, thank you for celebrating us today, God bless you!
